It takes years to become an overnight sensation – something this hip hop and R&B duo learned the hard way. Currently acclaimed as “the new faces of new wave”, “the next best hip hop duo”, etc, MajorSteez has actually been around since 2015 (originally as a trio), paying their dues and putting in the work.
Brothers Sihle and Sandile Mabena gained traction with Lies, featuring Costa Titch and Uncle Vinny; Slime – with Blxckie and a short shot from The Big Hash – then went insanely viral with Asbonge, in collaboration with Cassper Nyovest.
Always quick to be thankful, “Cass is a genius,” they say, but their own hard work, tenacity and talent played as big a part. It was only when they began to believe in themselves, that things started falling into place. And when they had the confidence to reach out to Cassper on Instagram, the legendary mentor took a listen then reached out and grabbed them right back with a collab and music video sponsorship.
Millions upon millions of views of the #AsbongeDanceChallenge on TikTok propelled MajorSteez straight into everyone’s faces, and ears, and their fan base grows by the hour.
Weekend Turn Up debuted them on sportscene in August – before Asbonge dropped (can we spot what’s next up or what?!).
Hating haters, swimming and spiders and loving love, their family, friends and fans, at the time of our exclusive interview Sihle and Sandile planned to “end off 2021 with a bang”. Instead, they produced a banger. A major banger. A MajorSteez banger – and more to come.
