“Clarity is clear to see” rings the intro to ‘You’re the One’ — one of Elaine’s (elaineofficial_ on Instagram) best known tracks on her ‘Elements’ EP which landed her the title of “first independent woman to reach the number one spot on African Apple Music album charts”.
What is clear to us, is the fact that Elaine is one of the most refreshing artists to arise out of the South African music industry. Lyrically, the Pretoria based musician has brought so much to the table that makes us resonate with her. She’s shared her most personal stories about love and heartbreak, and just when we thought that’s the only thing that could make us connect with her, she adds another thing into the mix: she was studying a university law degree within the same month that she released her debut EP ‘Elements’. If Elaine’s giant leap to success seems overnight, that’s because it is. The RnB artist revealed on an interview with SLIKOUR that her EP has reached over 2,5 million streams since being released in September 2019. We can all agree that there’s a lot to learn from this – so often we set our minds to things we’d like to achieve, only to let the fear of being dismissed by our peers or becoming overwhelmed stand in our way. This is something that Elaine addresses in her interview with sportscene, saying that “there are plenty of downfalls, but it’s about being positive and working on your mindset and to keep moving”.

The 20-year old singer/songwriter is passionate about being close to all aspects of her music career – both on the business and personal end. She prefers to write her own music as she wants listeners to “have an open and honest experience”. At the same time, she’s aware of the fact that being an independent artist comes with having a business mindset, so she has started her own record label to which she has signed herself and continues managing the business of making music with her a small but intimate team consisting of her producer and manager.
