Xyciic x The Weekend Turn Up

Get to know Redbat Unwritten model as well as Capsule Put Me On winner, Xyciic, on The Weekend Turn Up.

Have your surroundings shaped you in a creative sense, and in what way?

Definitely. I think the surroundings that I have created for myself have shaped me in the way that I am. The people I surround myself with, in terms of like other artists and producers, have definitely shaped who I am now.

How did you get started on the music scene?

I was in matric and someone I know was making beats but, he was making trash beats. I hit him up saying, “Yo, I could rap — it’s pretty easy” and he was like “Alright, let’s do something’. I agreed and started writing but I was also pretty trash so it started off with a combination of trash beats and trash music but I fell in love with the art of writing music and I kept going and going, asking him for more beats, and progressed.

Other than music, what other interests do you have?

I’m an actor too — I love acting, I love writing scripts and directing.

Is Fifa an interest?

*Laughs* That’s one of my big interests. Definitely one of my major interests.

What was your introduction to the hip hop scene?

My introduction to the Hip Hop scene was from Dj Spectacular, he’s crazy. The biggest introduction that I had was when I did a show called ‘New Melody’, hosted by Shelton Forbes. He kind of groomed me into being a better artist.

At what age did you being creating?

I was 17.

What colour would you consider your personality and why?

My personality…? Hmmm that’s a hard one. I think I’m going to go with purple because I’m full of magic.

Do you have anyone that you consider your mentor? How has their help or advice shaped you?

I don’t have a mentor to be honest. I have a lot of people that I can give credit to for advice and opportunity. Like I said Shelton Forbes, this dude Sebastian who is a producer and was the first real producer that I ever worked with. He put me in the studio for the the first time.

Who are your top 3 favorite hip hop artists of all time?

At the moment I love  XXXtentacion, Lil Uzi Vert and D Swell.

What do you hope to accomplish this year?

This year I hope to accomplish just doing more shows. I think that’s one thing that I haven’t been able to do and that’s probably because I don’t have the correct team right now that’s getting me out there. But doing more shows is one of my goals for 2019.
